The selection of drawings in this portfolio emerged as a series of preliminary works made to explore mixed media techniques and thematic direction for large scale paintings.
The process involves setting up a system of interplay with the viewer to vie for control and awareness of the imagery. I attempt to internalize and then expose particular elements. This interplay between layers is fueled by an interest in psychology, anatomy, and medical illustration.
The title of this series, “Sub Series”, was derived from the multiple meanings of words that share the same prefix and are linked to a similar meaning “below or under”: subconscious, subcutaneous, subordinate, subversion, subdued, etc.
