A native of the Carolinas, Rokes has been teaching studio art at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke since 2003. She served as gallery director for the University from 2009-2015. She is currently the Chair of the Art Department. Her areas of concentration are Drawing and Design. Before joining the Art Department Faculty at UNCP, she worked as a Development Officer at The Drawing Center in New York, NY.
Her current work involves figurative abstraction and explores a hybrid-drawing process combining digital and traditional techniques. Rokes received her B.F.A. in Drawing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (1993) and her M.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York (2003).
